"A Circus Hitched to a Tornado: Arkansas Politics
in the 20th Century" Exhibit

Jay Barth and Ernie Dumas serve as co-curators for this panorama of Arkansas
politics in the last century from the perspective of that era's dozen

"Playthings and Amusements of Yesteryear:
Toys from the Permanent Collection" Exhibit
Now - November 7, 2008
Historic Arkansas Museum, Gallery II
Playthings and Amusements of Yesteryear: Toys
from the Permanent Collection draws from the museum’s extensive
collection of Arkansas-made and used objects to offer a peak into the
playtime activities of children living in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Alongside the toys are photographs of children, some pictured with their
toys, taken during the same time period. Toys on display include rocking
horses, games (such as Tiddledy Winks), various types of dolls, miniature
porcelain dishes and doll house furniture, and toy soldiers and weapons.
Some toys should be familiar to present-day children while others are
indicative of their period, such as a child-sized toy spinning wheel.
Modern day toys like plastic tool sets are seen as wooden tools with objects
like slide planes (missing from today’s collection of hammers and
“electric” drills).
Historic Arkansas Museum is open 9am-5pm Monday through Saturday and 1-5pm
on Sunday.
Admission to the galleries and parking are free; tours of historic grounds
are $2.50 for adults, $1 for children under 18, $1.50 for senior citizens.
The Historic Arkansas Museum Store is open 10am-4:30pm Monday through
Saturday, 1-4pm on Sunday.
